Strategy Execution Under External Disruption

The Challenge

A strategy already exists, often a good one, but execution keeps breaking down. Staff turnover pulls out knowledge and accountability, the political environment changes faster than the process can keep up, or the strategy is understood differently across locations because no one has translated it into the local and cultural context.

The result: the strategy holds up on paper, but it never lands in the day-to-day of the organisation.

Around 82% of the senior leaders surveyed admit their organisation reacts too late, or not decisively enough. Decision-making processes take too long, and transformation initiatives get postponed.

The Approach

How I work

  1. RepositioningOf strategy and working processes, wherever turnover or external change has destabilised them.
  2. Translation into the local contextTogether with the local teams, the strategy becomes understandable at every location, without diluting its direction.
  3. EmbeddingMethods and processes that the team carries forward independently once the mandate ends. The goal isn't dependency, but a process that survives the external disruption.

For translation, I use AI-supported synthesis to quickly distill feedback from different locations into a consistent picture. It also serves as an early-warning signal when regulatory or political conditions change faster at individual locations than the regular reporting cycle can capture.

Duration: From three months, depending on scope and the number of locations involved.

The Impact

Insights into my work

GIZ, Trade Cluster

Frequent staff turnover, digital onboarding during the pandemic, and shifting political direction: realigned strategy and working processes for three initiatives, clarified roles, and developed an exit strategy for one initiative.

Impact: The teams have since carried the methods forward independently.

Greenpeace International

A long-term global strategy framework for 48 country offices across six continents: around twelve months from research through drafting to rollout, with translation into multiple languages and guides on what the framework means for individual roles.

Impact: The framework has since brought together the organisation's global climate initiatives into a single programme aimed at keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees, understood and applied across all 48 offices.

GIZ, programme on European investment and youth employment, Morocco

A strategy process across two three-day workshops in Rabat: over 200 ideas generated, and three to four service concepts validated with target users.

Impact: The 200-plus ideas led to market-ready service concepts, tested with target users and carried into an implementation roadmap for investment and employment.

One point of contact across every location

A strategy process spanning several locations needs continuous accountability. Local teams bring in the context. Where a project calls for further expertise, I bring in selected specialists from my network. The accountability stays with me.

From inquiry to proposal

  1. Brief introduction15 minutes, no obligation, by video or phone. We check whether your situation fits one of the three topics.
  2. Deep-dive on the starting situation60 minutes, on-site or remote. Concrete questions on structure, stakeholders and timing.
  3. ProposalDay or hourly rate, matched to the scope and duration of the mandate.

A conversation shows whether it's a fit.

Confidential and non-binding. In 15 minutes you describe the situation, and I'll tell you honestly whether and how I'm the right person for it.
